I had hoped Lin was adopted too! But I do think Toph was a single mom… it says “Unknown father” on what I believe is the official genealogy chart. I doubt they’d change that and invent a father for Lin, if for no other reason than Bryke loves trolling fandom hardcore. :)

Y’know what? When Hollywood starts opening up leading roles to POC, when casting calls stop requesting people who are, “Nice… looking, friendly, Not too dark”, when mixed race individuals can be mixed in the movies and not be shoved into one category or the other, when metropolitan areas like New York and Los Angeles are no longer depicted as being overwhelmingly white when they’re overwhelmingly NOT, and when any kid, regardless of race, can go to the movies and actually see themselves on the screen? THEN I’ll stop talking about white-washing.

So, why do they have to be diversified like some kinda bad 90’s sitcom?
No, seriously. WHY IS FLUTTERSHY MTF. Will somebody explain to me why they even have to be anything? None of these make any sense to me at all. If you’re going to make a character a certain way, have a reason for it. Don’t just do it because “OMG DIVERSITY YEY.” This just feels so forced it’s not even funny.
I’m not even saying “DON’T MAKE THEM ETHNIC CUZ DEY SHUD BE WHITE.” But it seems like this was just ‘draw a minority out of a hat’ and bam ponies. :\
Especially Fluttershy. You can’t get anymore forced than just making a character randomly trans for no reason at all. And, in advance, yes I know stereotypes are bad and baww misrepresentation blah blah blah shut up. But these characters have their own development and their own stories, and going ahead and just fucking with it because it’s the cool new thing to do is just as bad as just making every character ever white. Not because it’s bad to have diversity, but because that shows a lack of creativity and a disregard for who the character actually is.

So this isn’t my fandom, but that commentary, just WOW.
So… portraying a character as non-white fucks with character development? And portraying something as diverse is just as bad as white-washing?
Wait a minute, I have no time to dissect such an IDIOTIC STATEMENT made by some uneducated person’s white-normative-feelings…
This is my fandom, and what. the. hell. This doesn’t even make any sense. How can fan art fuck with character development? How does this drawing’s existence affect the show itself?
Fandom is a massive sandbox. It’s a gigantic coloring book and an endless set of crayons. We can remake the show as it is, taking it as an opportunity to spend more time with characters we love, or we can remake it as we want it to be, using it to tell the stories we need told. All of these things can exist at the same time. THAT IS FANDOM’S SUPERPOWER.
Besides which, the theme of the whole show is everypony is different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all get along. If ANY series is suited for portraying the diversity of the human race, it’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. If you don’t understand that, then you don’t understand the show.
(Rant aside, I LOVE THIS DRAWING. That is probably my favorite interpretation of Rainbow Dash as a human ever. And Fluttershy is precious.)

Aaaaa I dunno. I got tired of guys having no idea why girls find female superhero’s costumes kinda sexist, so I, um, made this?
My main goals were: 1) Make it so the first thing you think of when you look at them is sex, whether you want to or not. 2) make it so that any male human who looks at this feels really uncomfortable. 3) make it funny, because, well, it’s kinda hilarious really.
